An Open Letter to Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir
Dear Datin Paduka,
I have admired your charisma ever since I was a kid. I admired how you voiced your opinion and the way you brought forth issues of inequality in Malaysia.
However, as I grew older, my admiration for you grew thinner and eventually subsided as I read this very statement that you have openly given in the Malaysiakini news portal.
I was astounded when you start to measure achievements with awards. Yet, you proudly call upon yourself a Muslim. I wonder. If this is the way for you to view an achievement, how may you view this verse from the Quran?
Surah An-Nisa, Verse 74:
“Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world’s life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward.”
From my point of view, it is shallow to see such achievements from the materialistic window. Moreover, Nisha Ayub, is a transgender. What did he ever do to uphold the true meaning of Islam? By openly transcends from a male to female? Is that how you consider an achievement? In which case, I would argue that US had made a huge mistake giving Nisha Ayub the Woman of Courage award as he is not even a woman to begin with. He transcends into one!
You see, the Muslim authorities have never failed to fulfill their duties of upholding Islam in this nation. They have demanded neither awards nor recognition. And on top of that, your continuous critics and slanders towards them have never succeeded to stop their efforts.
If you were to say you championed for the ones who are oppressed…
Where were you when a muslimah was denied to be employed just because she donned her tudung? Where were you when Palestinians were slaughtered by the Zionists, as a result of defending their land?
If you say you championed for the oppressed and discriminated, I see you nowhere in the above highlighted questions. If you do care for such issues, why have they never made to be your main agenda? I wonder? Why such double standards?
To me, it is obvious that you care more for the ones who proudly disobeyed Islam rather the ones who truthfully fought for their faith. I see you as a discriminator, calling yourself a Muslim yet championed the ones who disobeyed Islam.
Such a pity for the double standard that you proudly highlighted…..
And now, I know…….. All your effort was for a materialistic recognition.
It was all about an Award then…. **clapclap**
Sincerely,

It’s people like you that gives malaysia and islam a bad name
Ikmal Rozlan, to whom are you referring?
Is marina mahathir a muslim. Her name doesn’t sound one, neither does her looks portray one.
What nonsense. So the writer’s only way to define a good Muslim is via Palestine and a tudung?? Rubbish
