You might be a ‘Muslim Feminist’ if…

Asadullah
You might be a “Muslim Feminist” if:

1. You believe most men need to “man up” for marriage and only women have a hard time finding partners.

2. You believe a husband should be expected to work, provide for the family, help around the house, be strong, handsome, successful, and be a moral exemplar equivalent to the sahaba, but a wife need only be “accepted as she is”.

3. You believe a man being angry at his wife is tantamount to abuse, but find it amusing if a woman insults, beats, and generally mistreats her husband for any reason whatsoever.

4. You think Aisha (ra) was an equivalent military general to Ali (ra), despite the former being carried around in a box and protected by other men, while the latter actually participated in combat. Also the obvious fact that the latter actually won that battle.

5. You think authentic hadith about obeying your husband and treating him with respect are inauthentic or have no bearing in “the civilized world”, but all the hadith in favor of women are authentic and relevant by default.

6. You think scholarly opinion is all part of the “patriarchy” because men mostly give fatawa — even when its in favor of women.

7. You think the Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) being a man isn’t a defining feature of who he is, but it is for every other man, which is apparently a bad thing.

8. You feel proud when you are reminded that in Islam, women are valued more as mothers than men are as fathers, women are better educators, better caretakers, better with emotions, are the backbones of the family, and that “behind every successful man is a woman” — but you get offended when someone tells you that men and women aren’t equal.

9. You think the Taliban and ISIS are normal examples of how men treat women in Muslim-majority societies.

10. You think feminism is needed because it gives Muslim women rights they never had before without realizing that the concept only came into existence from European nations who colonized the Muslim world, took away the rights Muslim women already had in Islam (in order to control the population), then decided that was a mistake, redirected the blame to Islam, and invented feminism to “free them” from the “savage ethics” that they themselves imposed on the colonized.

11. You think everything sated above is “sexist” and “justifies abuse against women”, not realizing that your errors in judgment are exactly that — because you want to support a narrative that feminism is a solution to problems created by a culture that bred them to begin with. #‎PleaseReflect‬ ‪#‎PartHumor‬ ‪#‎PartSerious‬
